Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
