Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
