The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any prominent honors show approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
